Our Approach

How the firm works

Hua Counsel begins with careful listening. Before any service commences, the firm takes time to understand what has happened and what the client needs from the process. Some clients need clarity more than anything else. Others need representation. Others need an adviser who can help them reach an agreement without the matter becoming more painful than it needs to be.

The three services below address these different needs. They can be used in sequence or independently. The firm will indicate honestly which is most suited to your circumstances after the initial sitting.

Lattice Sitting consultation

Service 01

Lattice Sitting

A first sitting that produces a written outline of the family's legal position, suited to clients who would value clarity before deciding whether further steps are wanted.

  • Private meeting of approximately 60 to 90 minutes
  • Written position paper prepared and delivered afterwards
  • Options outlined plainly — no legal jargon left unexplained
  • No obligation to proceed further
  • Covered by legal professional privilege from the outset
1

You write to us

Use the contact form or call the office to describe your situation briefly. The firm will confirm a suitable time within one working day.

2

We meet

The sitting takes place at the firm's office on Anson Road. You describe the matter at your own pace. The practitioner listens fully before speaking.

3

You receive your note

Within three working days, the firm delivers a written note setting out your position, the options available, and what each would involve.

Family proceedings representation

Service 02

Steady Course in Family Proceedings

A measured representation service in divorce and custody matters. The firm prefers quiet outcomes; formal proceedings are pursued only when the matter requires it.

  • Handling of divorce proceedings, including contested matters
  • Custody applications under the Guardianship of Infants Act
  • Maintenance applications and variations
  • Ancillary relief negotiations and applications
  • Court representation where required
  • Client updated at every significant development

1

Position review

The firm reviews the situation and advises whether proceedings are the right path or whether an alternative exists.

2

Strategy agreed

A clear plan for the matter is discussed and agreed. Nothing is filed without your knowledge and approval.

3

Proceedings conducted

The firm handles all court filings, correspondence with the other side, and hearings as required.

4

Resolution

Orders or agreements are finalised. The firm explains their effect and what, if anything, needs to be monitored going forward.

Quiet mediation service

Service 03

Quiet Mediation

Mediation work in custody and maintenance disputes. The firm acts as the client's adviser and conducts itself with restraint, keeping attention on what a workable arrangement would actually look like.

  • Pre-mediation preparation and position advice
  • Attendance at mediation sessions as adviser
  • Custody and maintenance dispute focus
  • Drafting of settlement terms if agreement is reached
  • Post-mediation advice on any resulting orders
1

Preparation

The firm reviews your position, identifies the areas of genuine disagreement, and prepares you for what the mediation process involves.

2

Mediation sessions

The firm accompanies you and advises quietly throughout. It does not push for agreement at the expense of a fair outcome.

3

Settlement or next steps

If agreement is reached, the firm drafts the terms. If not, it advises on what formal proceedings would involve.
