The Firm
A practice shaped by care and steadiness
Hua Counsel was established to offer something the courts seldom provide on their own: time, clarity, and a practitioner who listens properly.

Built on a single conviction
Hua Counsel came into being out of the recognition that family disputes — divorce, custody, questions of maintenance — are among the most personal difficulties a person can face. The formal machinery of the law is necessary, but it can feel remote, fast, and indifferent to the human situation behind each file.
The firm was set up to correct that. Each client arrives with a particular family, a specific history, and concerns that are their own. The firm takes time at the outset to understand that position fully. It does not assume that what applied to the previous client will apply to this one.
Work began in Singapore's CBD district, within reach of the Family Justice Courts. Over the years the firm has handled matters ranging from uncontested divorces — where the priority was clarity and speed — to contested custody proceedings requiring patient, careful advocacy. Mediation work has become an important part of the practice, because the firm believes that many families benefit from an outcome shaped by negotiation rather than adjudication.
The firm's guiding principle has remained constant: give each client an honest account of their position, consider all paths available, and pursue only those that serve the client's genuine interests.

Values
What the firm believes
Family law in Singapore operates within a framework shaped by the Women's Charter, the Guardianship of Infants Act, and the procedural rules of the Family Justice Courts. Within that framework, there is a great deal of room for the quality of the practitioner's judgement to affect the outcome. Hua Counsel exists to bring that judgement to bear in each case, however modest or complex.
The firm does not pursue cases that do not benefit from doing so. When mediation is a better path, the firm says so and facilitates it. When a matter genuinely requires adjudication, the firm prepares carefully and advocates with restraint. There is no advantage to the client — and no credit to the firm — in needless conflict.
Hua Counsel's work is concentrated in Singapore's Central Business District, close to the Family Justice Courts at Havelock Square. The firm serves clients from across Singapore's diverse communities, drawing on experience in matters involving families of varied backgrounds, religions, and circumstances.
